Mojave Gum Prints
Gum prints, an alternative photographic process from the 1800’s, are photographs made from exposing watercolor pigments, gum Arabic and light sensitive dichromate. Each image is hand printed in multiple registrations from cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK) digital negatives on watercolor papers. In these prints black is printed first with palladium. Although the negatives from each image can be printed multiple times, the nature of gum printing makes each print individual and unique. These prints continue an exploration of hand made photographic images. Throughout this research in alternative process photography the visual relationships between subjective and objective reality, interchange between the seen world and the sensed world is important in the work.
